Really great set of 20 nesting dolls, marked Sergiev Posad (home of a nesting doll school) and signed by the artist. Great detail on this set and the sheer tiny size of the smallest doll is amazing. As the continuity of life and beauty in nature are symbolized by Mother Earth, the mother image as represented in Matroyshka carries within her life and its promise of renewal with never ending imagination and color.

Several years back I received an entire collection (over 350 sets of nesting dolls, eggs, bottle holders and other items) from an ederly woman who collected these items since the 1970's and they are from multiple countries.
