This set is one of a kind. Russian Orthodox icons are hand painted on the set of twelve nesting dolls in the town of Sergiev Posad, Russian nesting dolls capital. The dolls are carved of linden wood that was carefully dried for two years to avoid cracking.

It is cut into blocks that are turned on the lathe to create the dolls. Then, the dolls are polished to a smooth finish for the artist to paint. Tallest doll is 10 1/4 inches.
