Vintage Russian Nesting Doll Matryoshka Babushka Style Chess Set Pieces Wooden

  

The kings are approximately 4 inches tall and the queens are about 3 1/2 inches tall. They have felt on the bottom. Some with chips or nicks in the paint, many have areas with a fine paper or plastic (not sure what material) that can be seen in the pictures. I have peeled it off of some but I cannot identify what it is.
