Unusual handpainted Matroyshka nesting doll set made from wood. Intricately painted with a woman holding rabbits in a basket. The figures are painted with a gloss lacquer. The large doll holds three equal sized dolls that can all stand up inside the largest doll's bottom half. The middle dolls are painted differently - one has a pig, one has a duck and one has a rooster. Each of those three dolls holds 3 equal sized dolls which can stand up in the middle sized doll's bottom half. Signed in Russian on the bottom of the largest doll. The largest doll measures about 6-1/4 inches in height. The taller three babies are in pink, green and blue. They measure 2-1/2 inches in height. The smallest nine babies each measure just under 1 inch in height. The dolls are in very clean, gently used condition. They open and close easily.
