The First Russian Traditional Matryoshka 8pcs Hand painted Nesting Doll
This is how - or very, very close - looked like the very first Russian nesting doll, carved from a linden blank and painted in Sergiev Posad at the end of the 19th century. Sergiev Posad technique is easily recognizable: soft, calm color shades, smooth tight lines, the absence of any unnecessary details. The contours of the drawing are not painted over, but burned out by hand; watercolor was used for the painting, and the wood texture is easily visible through the paint.
Each doll is impregnated with a special compound containing wax and covered with matte colorless varnish. In general, this eight-seat matryoshka is a wonderful piece of the cultural history of Russia. Looking for a real antique nesting doll?
