This is a vintage unique nesting doll. Wood carved and signed in Moscow, Russia by Russian artist. This set has 3D wood carved Baba Yaga. Baba Yaga is famous character from Russian fairy tales.

This nesting doll is very rare for the collection. No cheap copies, all the dolls are authentic!!! The doll is in very good vintage condition but it might have some minor imperfections.

There may be slight variations in carving because all the dolls are hand carved but they are very close to the picture. In Russia making wooden objects which fit each inside other has many Centuries tradition. Gradually these figurines became to be carved in the shape of dolls. These dolls were made and painted by Russian craftsmen.

This fabulous Russian doll was given the name MATRIOSHKA [matryoshka, matreshka] which originated from root of the word maternity. It became a symbol of FERTILITY and PERPETUATION. It has been a good luck present for a very long time.
